Mark Wahlberg ‘to produce movie about the Boston Marathon bombings’

Mark Wahlberg is to produce a movie based on the Boston Marathon bombings.

The 43-year-old star, who was born in Boston, Massachusetts, is also keen to play the role of Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis, who’s provided a first-hand account of the dramatic day in April 2013, when three people died and 264 others were injured.

Terry Press, the president of CBS Films, said: "There is nothing more compelling than a real story populated by real heroes.

"The team that we have assembled for this project is determined to give audiences a very personal look at what occurred during the days when the eyes of the world were on the city of Boston and how a group of contemporary patriots faced this crisis."

Deadline reports that Wahlberg will co-produce the film alongside Scott Stuber, Dylan Clark, Stephen Levinson and Michael Radutzky, with Nicholas Nesbitt assuming the role of the executive producer.

Meanwhile, Fox is currently working on a Boston Marathon-related movie of its own, with Casey Affleck set to produce and star in the film based on the book ‘Boston Strong’, written by Casey Sherman and Dave Wedge.

The film will mark the first time Affleck has earned a full producer credit since 2010’s ‘I’m Still Here’.
