Man jailed after stealing hard drives of unreleased Beyoncé music from rental car

A man who smashed his way into a rental car and made off with hard drives containing unreleased Beyoncé music has been sentenced to two years in prison, with another three years of probation to follow.

Kelvin Evans, 41, admitted to charges including entering an automobile and criminal trespass after the July 2025 break‑in in Atlanta, Georgia – a crime that unfolded while Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter tour was rolling into the city.

According to investigators, Evans appeared to target the vehicle at random.

The Jeep Wagoneer, rented by Beyoncé choreographer Christopher Grant and dancer Diandre Blue, was found with its rear window shattered and their luggage gone. The stolen items – including the hard drives – have never been recovered.

Evans accepted a plea deal in court on May 12, the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office informed the BBC.

His lawyer told the court he wants “a future where he can make money legitimately and be part of society like the rest of us.”

Prosecutors, meanwhile, had already begun laying out their case, showing jurors footage of a red Hyundai pulling up beside the rented Jeep in an Atlanta parking garage. Another clip showed the same car later arriving at an apartment building, where Evans was seen moving suitcases said to be linked to Grant and Blue.

Police said the stolen bags contained two MacBooks, Apple headphones, designer items and hard drives holding unreleased Beyoncé material.

Grant also told officers he had “personal sensitive information” connected to the star.

Investigators added that laptop‑tracking data pinged at the same address seen in the surveillance video.

Evans has been ordered to stay away from both victims and the car park where the theft took place. He has remained in custody since his arrest in August 2025.
