Lucy Fallon: Bethany Platt could be the next Pat Phelan

Lucy Fallon has hinted Bethany Platt could become the next big ‘Coronation Street’ serial killer.
The 22-year-old actress admitted she has no idea where her character – who has been through a lot after being at the centre of a dark grooming and sexual exploitation storyline – could go in the future, and suggested she could follow in the footsteps of the soap’s latest villain Pat Phelan (Connor McIntyre).
She told BANG Showbiz: "Literally everything that could ever happen has already happened. I was thinking she could be a drug addict or something, but that’s already happened!
"So I have no idea what could happen what could happen next? Maybe she needs to become a villain, like the next Pat Phelan or something? Maybe she’ll just start killing everyone."
An evil streak isn’t something viewers will expect from Bethany on the cobbles, and Lucy acknowledged that the character could be taken in a number of directions.
However, she did insist that whatever happens, fans will see the fallout from what she has been through with Nathan Curtis (Christopher Harper), as long as she remains on the show.
She explained: "Yeah, we’ll always see that come into any storylines that come up in the future. When we spoke to survivors who’d been through similar things, they said it’s something that stays with you forever.
"It’s not something where in a year you say, ‘OK, I’m fine now’.
"That’s something that is quite important and will remain in any storylines that we do – she will always have that with her."
