Liam Gallagher and John Squire top album chart with collaborative LP

Liam Gallagher and John Squire have topped the charts with their first collaborative LP.

The 51-year-old singer and John, 61, have topped the Official Vinyl Albums Chart with their eponymous debut ‘Liam Gallagher and John Squire’, and they’ve even managed to outsell their closest competition by a ratio of three to one.

Speaking exclusively to the Official Charts Company, the duo said: “Thanks to everybody that went out and bought this, it means a lot!”

The record has become the most-purchased album of the week in the UK’s independent record shops.

‘Liam Gallagher and John Squire’ is the 14th number one album of Liam’s career, which includes his past success with Oasis and Beady Eye.

The record is also John’s first-ever UK number one album.

In December, Liam revealed that he felt excited to work with John, describing the former Stone Roses star a “top songwriter”.

Liam said in a statement at the time: “I think John’s a top songwriter.

“Everyone always bangs on about him as a guitarist, but he’s a top songwriter too, man, no two ways about it as far as I’m concerned. There’s not enough of his music out there, whether it’s with the Roses or himself.”

The chart-topping album features the single ‘Just Another Rainbow’, and John previously explained the meaning behind the song.

He said: “To me the most obvious take on ‘Just Another Rainbow’ is that it’s about disappointment, and the sentiment is that you never get what you really want. But I don’t like to explain songs, I think that’s the privilege of the listener, it’s whatever you want it to be.

“To me, it’s also one of the most uplifting tracks we’ve made together, which is weird.”
