Larry Lamb joins cast of New Tricks

Larry Lamb has joined the cast of ‘New Tricks’.

The 67-year-old actor will join newcomers Tamzin Outhwaite, Nicholas Lyndhurst and Denis Lawson in the upcoming twelfth series of the comedy drama.

Lamb – who is best known for playing Archie Mitchell in ‘EastEnders’ and Mick in ‘Gavin and Stacey’ – will take on the role of retired police officer Ted Case who joins the Unsolved Crime and Open Case Squad (UCOS).

Speaking to The Sun newspaper about the news, he said: "I’m thrilled to have been asked to join such a well-loved show.

"The writing and the cast are top notch and I’m really looking forward to getting started."

The silver-haired star’s addition comes after the show’s original cast – Amanda Redman, James Bolum, Alun Armstrong and Dennis Waterman – all quit over the past few years.

Redman branded ‘New Tricks’ "bland" after her exit in 2013 while Waterman – who wrote and performed the show’s theme song – announced earlier this year he too was stepping down after eleven years because he missed the old cast.

Filming for the twelfth series is currently underway with Outhwaite, Lyndhurst and Lawson reprising their roles as DCI Sasha Miller, Dan Griffin and Steve MacAndrew respectively.

The series will reportedly get off to an "explosive" start with a two-part story that will see off Waterman’s character Gerry Standing for good.
