Kym Marsh: Corrie’s Soap Awards win was overdue

Kym Marsh thinks it was "about time" ‘Coronation Street’ started beating ‘Emmerdale’ to the main prize at the British Soap Awards.
The ‘Corrie’ star – who plays Michelle Connor in the soap – was delighted to see the ITV show crowned Best Soap at the ceremony earlier this month, and insists the prize has been a "long time coming" after the programme’s ITV rival took the title in the previous two years.
She said: "Corrie picked up the award for Best Soap and it’s been a long time coming.
"And, as much as ‘Emmerdale’ has had a really good few years, it’s about time we began getting the recognition we deserve."
The 42-year-old actress had a feeling the soap was going to win big because she didn’t attend the ceremony, and she was delighted to see Lucy Fallon (Bethany Platt) and Jack P. Shepherd (David Platt) take home the Best Actress and Best Actor awards, but was sad for her co-star Catherine Tyldesley.
Writing in her OK! magazine column, she added: "Spirits were high at work last week following ‘Corrie’ winning big at the British Soap Awards.
"The show picked up six awards and I thought we really deserved it. I had a good feeling about this year and thought, ‘You watch, the year I don’t go, we’ll win big.’
"I watched from the comfort of my sofa, as I wanted a weekend at home with Polly.
"I was thrilled to bits for lovely Lucy, who won two awards including Best Actress, and for Jack.
"He’s been on the soap since he was a young boy and he’s been fantastic recently.
"It was a shame Cath missed out on the Best Actress award."
