Kylie Minogue has achieved her first-ever Christmas number one.
The 57-year-old pop star has topped the Christmas charts in the UK for the first time with XMAS, meaning Kylie has also become the first woman to have number one singles across four different decades.
Kylie – who has already sold more than 80 million records during her career – told Official Charts: “It’s hard to put into words how special this feels.
“Being Christmas number one really is the most wonderful gift! I’m so thankful to everyone who’s been listening and sharing the love and I’m wishing you all a very Merry Christmas!”
Kylie has also become the first solo female artist in 12 years to top the UK charts at Christmas. Kylie’s hit single leads the way this year ahead of Last Christmas by Wham!, and Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You.
Meanwhile, Kylie recently confessed that she suffered “really bad migraines” while making her Kylie Christmas (Fully Wrapped) album.
The chart-topping pop star returned to the studio to revamp her 2015 festive record Kylie Christmas and add four new tunes to the track list – but Kylie battled terrible headaches during the sessions.
Speaking to NME, Kylie explained: “When I listen to the songs now, it feels really good. It felt like Christmas, even if I was in the studio in tears sometimes because I was having really bad migraines!”
Kylie also admitted that she hoped XMAS would top the UK charts.
She said: “It would be amazing, but I honestly did not think about that when we first went into this promo. I’ve been so focused on everything else, wrapping everything up and all the other mechanics, but now that we’re here …
“It would be nice. But also I’m cool with it regardless because it’s a very coveted spot and crazy things happen around Christmas, so I don’t think it is that predictable.”
