His band Nirvana were pioneers of the grunge genre and they changed rock music forever with their single ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ which catapulted them to the mainstream.
However, Cobain struggled to cope with his fame and the interest in his life with wife Courtney Love – with whom he had a daughter, Frances Bean Cobain.
In 1994, the frontman was found dead at his home in Seattle aged just 27. It was determined by the coroner that the gun wound was self-inflicted.
