Kelly Clarkson’s new LP will be ‘super soulful’

Kelly Clarkson’s new album will be "super soulful".
The ‘Beautiful Disaster’ hitmaker has opened up about her eighth studio LP, which she says is a return to the music she performed as a contestant on ‘American Idol’ in 2002.
She explained: "It’s the album I’ve always wanted to make since I was in junior high. It’s super soulful, fun, and more along the lines of urban pop.
"It’s definitely what people heard me sing on ‘American Idol’ – more of that soulful sound."
The 34-year-old singer – who went on to win the US talent show – is to lock herself away in the studio in the coming months to record songs for her follow-up to 2015’s ‘Piece by Piece’ and said that it will be unlike anything she’s ever done before.
She told the Toronto Sun: "We already have a few songs and we’re going to Los Angeles in a few weeks to cut a bunch more.
"I love all the music I’ve done over the past 14 years.
"I’ve just never really been able to make the album I’m making now."
Kelly – who signed to Atlantic Records in June after 14 years at RCA Records – previously revealed she was inspired to write a song for the record after reading the book ‘Big Little Lies’ by Liane Moriarty.
Kelly has written lyrics from the main character’s perspective of going through domestic violence, which enabled her to understand what it must feel like.
She said: "I actually wrote a song that might go on this next record about one of the characters, Celeste.
"know this is going to sound horrible, but I’ve just never understood domestic violence. And Liane did such a great job at depicting the emotional state, what exactly is going through peoples’ heads, why they make the decisions they do, what traps them, what they’re holding on to.
"So I wrote the song from the character’s perspective. I have more empathy for that situation [now]."
