Katy Perry took her opportunity on stage to urge the fans in attendance and the watching world to "choose love" to "conquer hate".
Before playing her two songs – an acoustic version of ‘Part of Me’ and a defiant ‘Roar’ – Katy also paid tribute to Ariana Grande for organising, saying: "I am humbled to be here tonight to share and spread love. Thank you Ariana so much for your incredible strength and courage and for inviting me to participate this evening.
"It’s not easy to always choose love, is it? Especially in moments like these. It can be the most difficult thing to do. But love conquers fear, and love conquers hate. And this love that you choose, will give you strength and it’s our greatest power."
