Julianne Moore: Motherhood is challenging

Julianne Moore finds motherhood "challenging".
The 57-year-old actress has son Caleb, 20, and daughter Liv, 15, with her husband Bart Freundlich, and has said that whilst she isn’t afraid to be a tough mother to her brood, she does sometimes find herself doing their chores for them when she "probably shouldn’t".
Speaking about parenting to Town & Country magazine, Julianne said: "I find it challenging. What are you going to get hung up about, the cleaning-their-rooms thing? [My daughter] Liv recently came back from being away a couple of weeks, and she needed to do her laundry. She said, ‘I need to do my laundry,’ and I said, ‘Okay, I’ll help you. I’ll put it in.’ Then, before I knew it, I’d done it all. Then Bart asked, ‘Why did you do her laundry?’ and I said I couldn’t help myself and I wanted to help her. But I probably shouldn’t have."
Her comments come after she previously admitted that her marriage to the 48-year-old director – whom she tied the knot with in 2003 – hasn’t been "easy", despite dubbing him as an "exceptional" man.
The ‘Boogie Nights’ actress said: "Bart is an exceptional man and a great father. He makes me feel very good about myself and my work and the way we have raised our children together.
"But that doesn’t mean it’s easy all the time."
Though the ‘Wonderstruck’ actress admits their jobs can make things "more difficult" for their family unit, she’s also thankful they both have flexibility that means they have always been able to coordinate their projects to make sure at least one of them is around for their kids.
She added: "That can make it more difficult and that’s why I often choose projects where I don’t have to work very far from home or go away for three or four months.
"But there are also a lot of advantages in both of us working in the film business, because we have a lot more flexibility than we would if we both had office jobs, for example.
"We’ve rarely had situations where we have to work at the same time and we’ve arranged our schedules over the years so that one of us has always been home to look after our children."
