Joe Wicks hails the ‘power of exercise for mental health’

Joe Wicks believes in the "power of exercise for mental health".
The 33-year-old star – who is known as The Body Coach – began his ‘P.E With Joe’ series on YouTube to help children stay active amid the coronavirus pandemic, and Joe thinks it’s important to recognise the importance of being physically healthy.
He said: "I’ve definitely made a shift within the last year or two to more the fitness side of things.
"I came from a personal training background and I loved all the bootcamps and the training one to one stuff. But I really kind of became known from the ‘lean in fifteen’ videos and the Instagram account where I was sharing my recipes, the books came after that.
"As I’ve realised, food is important, it’s very important and I love that. But I really also really believe in the power of exercise for mental health."
What’s more, Joe admitted he struggles to believe the impact he’s made amid the pandemic.
He told Jessie Ware’s ‘Table Manners’ podcast: "I’ve been doing a lot of content on YouTube for the last nine years, trying to grow my YouTube channel.
"And with the school stuff specifically, I’ve spent four years visiting schools, I’ve been all around the UK, I have done a UK tour, I partnered up with Children in Need and done another tour.
"So I’ve got a lot of experience of going into schools and trying to engage and excite young people in exercise.
"So basically, what’s happening now, this is my dream come true. I envisioned this, I visualised this happening.
"I just thought it was going to take me 10 years to achieve and it’s happened in six weeks because of the press and the coverage and every single teacher in every school has put it on their newsletters."
