Jennifer Aniston’s dislike for New York City contributed to her split from Justin Theroux.
The ‘Friends’ actress and the 46-year-old actor confirmed on Thursday (15.02.18) they separated at the end of last year after two-and-a-half years of marriage, and it has now been claimed that their vastly differing lifestyles – which saw Justin spend much of his time in New York whilst Jennifer resided in Los Angeles – caused "problems" between the pair.
A source said: "Jennifer is more comfortable in Los Angeles with her close-knit group of friends. But Justin doesn’t feel as at home in LA, nor with Jennifer’s friends, he loves New York, and the edgier crowd in the city."
Jennifer, 49, had tried to move to Manhattan to live with Justin – who owns a home in Greenwich Village – but the star "couldn’t deal with the paparazzi and the pokey apartment," and soon high-tailed it back to Bel Air.
The insider added to the New York Post newspaper’s Page Six column: "As they spent more and more time apart, their problems became bigger. He’s very focused on himself and his craft. And Jen is not the easygoing girl she wants the public to think she is. She isn’t as happy, and she is far more complicated."
Meanwhile, it has also been claimed the ‘We’re The Millers’ star is now "stronger than she’s ever been" thanks to her split from Justin.
A source said: "This is the last time she’ll get swept away by the charms of someone who isn’t right for her. She’s independent and stronger than she has ever been. She’s not reliant on anyone."
The couple announced their split this week, following increased speculation about the state of their marriage.
In a joint statement, the former couple said: "In an effort to reduce any further speculation, we have decided to announce our separation. This decision was mutual and lovingly made at the end of last year. We are two best friends who have decided to part ways as a couple, but look forward to continuing our cherished friendship.
"Normally we would do this privately, but given that the gossip industry cannot resist an opportunity to speculate and invent, we wanted to convey the truth directly. Whatever else is printed about us that is not directly from us, is someone else’s fictional narrative. Above all, we are determined to maintain the deep respect and love that we have for one another."
