Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean to front global warming skate show

Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean are to front a new series exploring the effects of global warming.
The skating legends will travel to Alaska in ‘Dancing On Thin Ice’ in order to find out how rising temperatures are affecting communities who skate everyday.
The ITV show will see the ‘Dancing On Ice’ judges meet with a three year old who is learning to skate and also try out back-country skating, which is popular with locals, who seek out wild ice in caves, lakes, and lagoons.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre TV column: "Torvill and Dean jumped at the chance to do this new show for ITV.
"They are both passionate about trying to reverse climate change and it’s a story, and message, that they can bring to the 13 million viewers who tune into Dancing On Ice.
"The show has already been filmed and follows the skating champions as they visit towns in Alaska to see how big ice skating is in the communities out there and how the environment stands to affect them as the world warms up."
News of the programme comes shortly after it was revealed ITV bosses have commissioned a number of ‘Dancing On Ice’ specials in case the main series can’t go ahead due to the coronavirus pandemic, which will see Jayne and Chris look back on memorable moments from the show over the years.
A source said: "They’ve filmed some lockdown episodes – working title: ‘Dancing On Ice Specials’ – to fill that gap, should the live programmes become untenable.
"Chris and Jayne have been reflecting on their time on the show, and there will be loads of behind the scenes, never-before-scene clips.
"The hope is that these can be screened on ITV2 as a spin-off if the main series is able to go ahead – but execs don’t want to take any chances."
Previous ‘Dancing On Ice’ contestants – including the likes of Gemma Collins, Joe Swash and Jorgie Porter – have also contributed to the upcoming shows.
