Jay Kay admits it’s ‘good to be back’ at Jamiroquai’s Roundhouse concert

Jamiroquai singer Jay Kay declared it was "good to be back" as the band played their first UK concert for six years at The Roundhouse in London on Friday night (31.03.17).
The flamboyant 47-year-old frontman stepped on stage to a rapturous reception from his adoring fans wearing LED headgear blinking with multi-coloured lights and kicked off the evening’s funk proceedings with new songs ‘Shake it On’ – which morphed into ‘Little L’ – and ‘Automaton’ from the group’s eighth album of the same name.
In between tracks Jay took a pause to drink in the moment and said: "Thank you! It’s good to be back, back on home turf."
The band then gave fans the classics ‘The Kids’ and ‘Space Cowboy’ and proceeded to get the entire Roundhouse dancing.
Other highlights from the band’s new LP included ‘Superfresh’, ‘Something About You’ and the Prince and Chic infused ‘Hot Property’ and Jay couldn’t resist a cheeky boast about the reaction to his latest record.
He said: "No one in 36 countries and two in 24 countries, right? Even I thought I was dead and buried and then I realised I loved it too much."
The band delighted fans with a host of classic tracks from their backcatalogue including ‘White Knuckle Ride’, ‘Cosmic Girl’, ‘Mr. Moon’ and ‘Mr. Moon’.
They closed with ‘Canned Heat’ and ‘Love Foolosophy’ which saw the entire Roundhouse dancing to Jamiroquai’s unique brand of disco-tinged funk and acid jazz.
The concert was the hottest ticket in town and ‘Star Trek’ actor Simon Pegg was in the audience but despite being surrounded by dancing revellers he resisted the urge to get his groove on.
