Jason Gardiner doesn’t know if he’ll be returning to Dancing on Ice in 2019

Jason Gardiner has no idea if his ‘Dancing on Ice’ contract will be renewed next year.
The 52-year-old show judge – who is known for his acid tongue – hasn’t been told by ITV bosses whether he’ll be returning to the celebrity ice skating show in 2019, despite it landing another series.
The Australian says that he is just keeping focused on ensuring the current series is a success.
He admitted: "I know what this industry is like. You can never say it is a sure thing.
"They have not spoken to me about next year. Oh God … who knows what will happen?
"At this point I’m just making sure we get through this series and making it the best that we can.
"I have got a job ahead of me. But none of us knows where we are going to be next year."
The choreographer admits that the show needed a four-year break to avoid "flogging a dead horse".
He told the Daily Star newspaper: "The reason why it stopped is we had done it for quite some time … almost a decade.
"And I think, as with all of these things, they need to have a rest.
"What you don’t want to be is one of these shows still flogging a dead horse even though the ratings are abysmal … and still trying to make it something when clearly the public don’t care for it."
Jason admits he didn’t know whether ‘DOI’ would be revived, but says 2018 felt like the right time to get stars back on the rink.
He spilled: "There was a time when we did not know if we were ever going to come back.
"But this year we all felt that it was time. It just felt right."
The show currently sees Jason sit on the judging panel with skating legends Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, and Diversity’s Ashley Banjo.
The theatre producer loves his fellow judges because they all have expert knowledge to bring to the table.
He said: "I think this panel has real kudos as everybody there is an expert in either dancing or skating. It feels quite solid.
"We all have professional respect for each other and I think there is no denying we all know what we are talking about."
