Jack Ashton set to leave Call The Midwife

Jack Ashton is to leave ‘Call The Midwife’.
The actor plays the role of Tom on the popular BBC drama, but he is set to follow in the footsteps of his on-screen wife Barbara Hereward (Charlotte Ritchie), who died of meningitis during Sunday’s (04.03.18) episode.
Jack – whose TV character is a vicar – explained: "Tom gets an offer that may allow him to deal with his grief away from Poplar.
"He’s hanging up his dog collar for a bit."
Despite this, Jack has left the door open for a possible return to the programme in the future.
Speaking to TV Times magazine, he shared: "He could be back in the series after next but we shall see."
Jack is actually dating his ‘Call The Midwife’ co-star Helen George – who plays Trixie – in real life.
Helen, 33, gave birth to their daughter Wren Ivy in September last year, and she is due to return to the hit programme in time for the next series.
Of how they’ll manage the situation, Jack explained: "When she goes back to film series eight, I’ll be Daddy Daycare."
Meanwhile, Jack previously revealed that Helen’s midwife didn’t know who she was when she helped deliver their daughter.
Although the actress made a name for herself in the medical drama, she didn’t receive any special treatment when she went into labour with her little girl.
Jack said: "We had a midwife and she was wonderful. They all were. We have nothing but praise for the NHS.
"But they didn’t know who we were until after. They said: ‘We didn’t know you were famous.’ But that was great. We were treated just like everybody else."
