‘It’s all up in the air’: Gethin Jones has no idea about his One Show future

Gethin Jones says it is "up in the air" whether he will land a permanent job on ‘The One Show’.

The 42-year-old presenter has been co-hosting the show with Alex Jones over the last few months but admitted he has no idea if BBC bosses want him to be the permanent replacement for Matt Baker – who left the show at the beginning of 2020 after nine years.

Gethin told OK! magazine: "I think it’s all up in the air at the moment because of the pandemic. I don’t know what the plan is but I’ve really enjoyed it. I’ve loved going into work and snooping into people’s houses as all the interviews have been on Skype.

"I love working with Al. I’ve known her since I was 18 and my first ever TV job was with her. I was wearing double denim and she had about 17 colours in her hair. We’re always chatting away before the show starts and we have to remind ourselves that we’re on live telly at 7pm and we have to behave ourselves."

Gethin has also been working on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ spin-off ‘It Takes Two’ since 2016 and admitted he has no idea how it will work amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said: "I know I’m going to be back, which is brilliant. I know they’re working flat out to make the show a success in whatever guise it’s going to be this year. I’m very excited to see who’s going to be on it and how it’s going to work."

When asked how the show would cope without a live audience, he said: "I’m not being down on it but I’d be lying if I said it won’t make a difference. Of course a live audience gets you going. But I imagine the crew will have some very clever stuff up their sleeves and I have no doubt that the way they will shoot it and the way it will look on telly will be superb."
