Harvey Weinstein rules out violent films

Harvey Weinstein will not be making any more violent films.

The legendary producer thinks it’s time he said "enough" to slaughter films following his extensive catalogue of bloody movies such as ‘Pulp Fiction’, ‘Reservoir Dogs’ and ‘Kill Bill’, and is "happy" with his new animation ‘Escape From Planet Earth’ because it’s family friendly.

He told The Daily Mirror newspaper: "I made the movie for my kids, and I wanted to make something my mum could watch too.

"I’ve done my fair share of exploitation movies and slasher movie, and I’m not going to do that any more. They serve no purpose except to make money."

Last month Weinstein – who is an ardent anti-gun lobbyist – unveiled plans for a new film ‘The Senator’s Wife’ which will take on the National Rifle Association in America.

The 61-year-old star understands why fellow Hollywood directors use violence in their work but he has ruled bloody films in future to avoid hypocrisy claims.

Harvey explained: "Quentin Tarantino and Martin Scorsese are artists though. They have a theory that the more you show the violence and guns the more of a deterrent it becomes.

"But for me personally, I am holding my hand up and saying ‘enough.’ I’m not going to make movies where we slaughter a whole bunch of teenagers but I am not saying anybody else can’t do it."

"I don’t want nay legislation. I just don’t want to make those kinds of movies any more. Plus making Escape made me a rock star at home, so I’m happy."
