Harry Gregson-Williams honoured with BMI Icon Award

Harry Gregson-Williams was honoured with the BMI Icon Award at the 2018 BMI London Awards on Monday night (01.10.18).
The acclaimed film composer was presented with the prestigious prize at the ceremony, which was held at the Dorchester Hotel in London, and he joins an exclusive list of previous recipients which includes Sir Tim Rice, Queen, Ray Davies, Van Morrison and Bryan Ferry among others.
Speaking as he collected his statuette, Harry – who has provided music for films such as ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’, ‘The Martian’ and the ‘Shrek’ franchise – said: "I’ve been a very lucky person, I do feel incredibly fortunate to even be here tonight.
"I do recognise how truly lucky I’ve been to have the opportunity to have scored so many amazingly different films over the last 20 years.
"Many of the highlights for me have been happy collaborations with others far more talented and extraordinary than me.
"I would not be standing here had it not been for the significant part that BMI played, and still plays in my life. Their guidance and support have been unwavering."
Other winners on the night included Ed Sheeran and Johnny McDaid who scooped the Song Of The Year prize for Ed’s global hit ‘Shape Of You’, whilst Natasha Bedingfield received the BMI Million-Air accolade for their being five million performances of her song 2004 song ‘Unwritten’.
Trevor Rabin also received the Million-Air Award for five million performances of Yes’ ‘Owner Of A Lonely Heart’ and Liam Payne and James Arthur won BMI London Awards for their tracks ‘Strip That Down’ – written by Liam, Ed and Brian Derek Thompson – and ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’, which was penned by James, Neil Ormandy and Steven Solomon, respectively.
