Harrison Ford is to star in a "uniquely potent" ‘Blade Runner’ sequel.
The 72-year-old actor, who played the character of Rick Deckard in the 1982 original, will return to the role in the screenplay written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green and directed by ‘Prisoners’ filmmaker Denis Villeneuve.
Producers Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson said in a joint statement: "We are honoured that Harrison is joining us on this journey with Denis Villeneuve, who is a singular talent, as we experienced personally on ‘Prisoners’."
The much-anticipated film will also see the return of Ridley Scott, who will produce the sci-fi sequel alongside Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson.
The statement added: "Hampton and Michael, with Ridley Scott, have crafted a uniquely potent and faithful sequel to one of the most universally celebrated films of all time, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with this amazing, creative team."
The ‘Blade Runner’ sequel, which is set several decades after the conclusion of the original, will focus on the search for Harrision’s on-screen character.
Speaking late last year, Scott revealed: "Harrison is very much part of this one, but really it’s about finding him.
"He comes in in the third act."
