Great British Bake Off start date pushed back for Olympics

The new series of ‘The Great British Bake-Off’ has been pushed back by 19 days due to the Olympic Games.
BBC bosses are worried about competing with the Olympics and have decided to delay the start date until August 24, three days after the closing ceremony.
A source told The Sun: "’Bake Off’ is a juggernaut unlike anything else on the TV. It pulls in huge, huge viewing figures but the bosses still have to think practically.
"The Olympics is a big deal for the Beeb and they are basically wiping their prime-time schedule to show all of the action.
"The ‘Bake Off’ is one of the pinnacles of their year so they’re not going to waste it. The view is if it starts on 10 million plus viewers, it’ll stay there all series.
"It just makes sense for it to start after the Olympic action has finished."
Last year the show – which stars Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood – kicked off on August 5 and it usually starts in the first or second week of August.
Nadiya Hussain won last year’s programme and recently revealed that Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip are fans of the show.
The 31-year-old mother-of-three was chosen to make the monarch’s 90th birthday cake and the Duke of Edinburgh needed no introduction to Nadiya when she presented them with the sweet treat.
Nadiya said: "When the Queen introduced me to Prince Philip while I was presenting the cake to them, he said, ‘Yes I know who she is – but what flavour is the cake?’ so I believe they do watch ‘GBBO’."
