Gareth Edwards: There’s something special about the British accent

Gareth Edwards thinks there is "something special" about the British accent.
The 41-year-old director has helmed the much-anticipated ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’, which was shot in Britain and features English actress Felicity Jones and Welsh actor Spencer Wilding, who plays the iconic Darth Vader.
Gareth said: "There’s just something special about the accent. We do a very good bad guy – you get the impression that when the Empire has a job vacancy it tends to head-hunt people from the Royal Shakespeare Company.
"Also I found out that when you’re filming in Britain, there are all sorts of reasons why it’s just easier to hire Brits."
Gareth claimed that the British movie industry is punching well above its weight at the moment.
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "This is the first ‘Star Wars’ movie to be shot in Britain as well as having a British star and a British director. That’s because as a country we punch above our weight in terms of the great artists and work we can produce."
And Gareth said that despite the movie’s release, he can still barely believe he was afforded the opportunity to direct a ‘Stars Wars’ film.
He shared: "I still can’t believe that I am directing a ‘Star Wars’ movie.
"When I was five years old, I used to go to bed in ‘Star Wars’ pyjamas between ‘Star Wars’ sheets. Now, every day I wake up and check I’m not in those same pyjamas and sheets and it wasn’t just a five-year-old boy’s amazing dream."
