Evanescence’s Amy Lee delighted son, 11, loves metal music

Evanescence’s Amy Lee is thrilled that her son loves metal music.

The rock band’s frontwoman said the group’s shows with Metallica on the latter’s M72 Tour across Australia and New Zealand proved more memorable than she expected, and that it reminded the star of her childhood love of music.

Amy, 44, explained to Loudwire: “I got to bring my son, who’s 11 now – just at the perfect age to fall in love with metal.

“They were so great, they were so gracious. You never know how it’s going to be coming into somebody else’s world.

“Him getting to experience that in the stadium, rain gently starts falling during Nothing Else Matters, I’m just watching his mind go like, ‘I’m in.’

“It was such a good thing for my heart and took me back to being that age and falling in love with music.”

Evanescence is releasing its sixth studio album, Sanctuary, on Friday (05.06.26), and Amy thinks it will connect with listeners because of its relatable lyrics.

The Bring Me to Life hitmaker said: “I feel like we’re in a moment where words are really important, and every single line is an opportunity, it’s a chance to say something that’s going to impact somebody.

“Hopefully, in a positive way, make them feel something, whether it’s feeling understood or not alone in something, or just they’re not alone in the craziness of everything going on in the world right now.

“It’s f***** up and it feels like all of our control is being ripped away.”

The album’s release comes almost a year after former Evanescence guitarist Jen Majura, 42, stepped back from the music industry for the foreseeable future, because of the “overwhelming amount of ridiculousness that comes with the music industry nowadays”.

However, Jen has not ruled out a return to music in the future.

Announcing Jen’s departure, Amy and her bandmates declared her tenure a “very special chapter” in the history of Evanescence.

In a social media statement, they wrote: “It has been a very special chapter in the band with our dear friend Jen Majura, but we have decided it’s time to go our separate ways.

“We will always love her and support her, and can’t wait to see what she does next! We are so grateful for the good times and great music we made all around the world together.”

Jen later claimed it was not her decision to leave Evanescence, but insisted there are “no hard feelings” or animosity between her and the rest of the band.

She posted on X: “I feel the need to address that none of this was my decision!

“I have no hard feelings against anybody, and I wish Evanescence all the best. I am allowed to carry beautiful memories of these past years, I am grateful.”
