EastEnders ‘to return by September 7th’

‘EastEnders’ looks set to return by early September.

Dayle Hudson, who plays Peter Beale on the BBC One soap, shared pictures of his new scripts for when the programme returns to air – after the show ran out of episodes, with the final one for now broadcasting last night (16.06.20) – and they included the date Tuesday September 8th, 2020.

As a result, fans have been speculating that the show will begin again from the Monday, September 7th, as EastEnders’ week of transmission usually begins on a Monday.

Filming was suspended on ‘EastEnders’ and other soaps in March due to the coronavirus pandemic, and while the show’s stars are heading back to the set later this month, there won’t be any new episodes in the near future.

The soap confirmed last week that it would be back up to four episodes a week – after output was reduced to two weekly episodes during lockdown – upon the show’s resumption, but eps will be cut to 20-minutes long.

Executive producer Jon Sen said: "Resuming production is incredibly exciting and challenging in equal measure.

"Since we postponed filming, we’ve been working non-stop trialling techniques, filming methods and new ways of working so that we can return to screens four times a week – as ‘EastEnders’ should be.

"Filming will inevitably be a more complex process now, so creating 20 minute episodes will enable us to ensure that when we return, ‘EastEnders’ will still be the show the audience know and love."

The update comes after confirmation that ‘Hollyoaks’ will not return to its usual five-nights-a-week output until 2021.
