Dwayne Johnson to play Shazam

Dwayne Johnson has revealed he could play Shazam.

The hunky actor, 42, revealed the news in an interview with LoveFilm, when he said that his character "would have the power of Superman".

Asked about his ambitions, Johnson said: "Shazam, of course, I would love to play. They approached me about [Captain Marvel] and [villain] Black Adam as well.

"We’ve been meeting for months. We’re toying with either one. I think it’s up to the fans. Without question."

The DC Comics character – whose powers are magical rather than alien – will be better-known to some comic book fans as Captain Marvel.

Described as ‘The World’s Mightiest Mortal’, Shazam is considered to be among the most impressive of the DC characters and would seem to be a good fit for Johnson’s incredible physique.

However, he could also play the role of Black Adam, who is almost identical in appearance to Shazam, but whose personality has been corrupted by magical powers.

Johnson has confirmed that he is happy for the fans to decide which of the roles they want him to play.

He said: "I think it’s up to the fans, very specifically because they are passionate about the comic book, about the history and mythology [of the character]."
