Duke and Duchess of Sussex laughed through vows because of crowd cheers

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex giggled their way through their wedding vows because they kept hearing the shrieks and cheers from the fans outside the chapel.
The royal couple tied the knot at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, Windsor, on May 19 in front of the whole world but many of those who watched the ceremony live on television were puzzled as to why the pair were laughing as they said their "I dos."
However, the duchess’ friend Janina Gavankar – who was one of the 600 guests invited to the intimate ceremony – has revealed the whole chapel were sniggering as the crowd outside the church kept interrupting the proceedings with their screams.
Speaking to Town & Country magazine, she said: "One thing that made many of us giggle was that we could hear the wonderful people outside. When the vows were happening, they would cheer, and we could hear them. It was a very quiet chapel.
"We all followed the Queen’s lead. But we could hear everyone cheer and it was so heartwarming. Really, it filled our hearts."
And, although the event was streamed to television screens around the world, the 37-year-old actress forgot how big the wedding was as it felt so intimate in the church.
She explained: "If you were in the chapel, it felt like a small wedding because we didn’t see Meghan’s massive walk up the church aisle that preceded the [quire]. It felt like we were just right there with her, with both of them."
The 36-year-old actress – who was known as Meghan Markle before she got married – may be a member of the royal family now and be forced to follow royal protocol, but she has told her friends that she’ll always be "Meg" to them.
Her long-term make-up artist Daniel Martin said recently: "I asked her that. ‘Do I bow to you? I don’t want to disrespect you, but I’ve known you for almost 10 years. What’s up?’ She started laughing and she said, ‘I’m always going to be Meg.’
"But next time I see them I will be respectful and know my protocol. But Meg is always going to be Meg, that’s how it is!"
