Doctor Foster creator reveals series three plot details

‘Doctor Foster’ creator Mark Bartlett has revealed plot details of the third series of the hit drama.
Suranne Jones stars as GP Gemma Foster in the BBC show, which last month picked up Best Drama prize at the National Television Awards (NTAs), following a successful second season, and bosses are keen to make another instalment.
Mark told the Radio Times: "That ending of series two leaves a lot open to come back to: where has the son Tom gone and what’s happening to him?
"What happens to the parents? That’s the sort of story territory we’d be in, but it’s not written yet.
"No one has ever put pressure on me to make more of it. I think the BBC would rather I did something new, but if we do bring ‘Doctor Foster’ back it will only thrive if we do it at the right time."
The second series ended with Gemma and her cheating husband Simon Foster’s (Bertie Carvel) son Tom running away to live his life without his parents.
Tom Taylor, 16, stars in the show as Gemma’s son Tom and also appeared opposite Idris Elba and Matthew McConnaughey in the big screen adaptation ‘The Dark Tower’ last year. His contract included appearing in two further movie sequels, if they go ahead.
Suranne, 39, won Best Drama Performance at the NTAs for the show, but has said she is already too busy to return in the role until next year.
She said: "You should never say never because if I say I’m not doing it, then I rule that out, so I’m not saying no. But we’re busy. I’m filming until December 2018, so I’m not even free until 2019."
The show pulled in 7.5 million viewers to its season two finale and BBC bosses are said to be keen to commission a third series.
A source said: "After its ratings success last year commissioners were always keen for it to come back and although its early days they have given it the green light."
