Denise Welch to crack US?

Denise Welch wants to make a name for herself in the US.
The 58-year-old actress – who was most recently seen playing Alison Slater in ‘EastEnders’ – is set to spend the warmer months across the pond in the hope that she can persuade some Hollywood bosses to give her a major role.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, she said: "I really love it out here [US] and I am going to try to get some auditions and see if I can get some roles. I have got nothing to lose.
"I have seen a lot of British actresses come over here and pick up really strong work. In England most people see me as a tart with a heart, but here I start with a fresh slate."
And, although it’s a big move, Denise – who is best known for playing Natalie Barnes in ‘Coronation Street’ from 1997 to 2000 – isn’t fazed about upping sticks temporarily.
She explained: "I feel really relaxed about it and it will great experience to meet with casting agents here. I am interested in anything from TV to films. I feel there are so many different projects that are mad here, that there is an opportunity to prove I can do a diverse role."
But it’s hardly surprising she’s not fretting about the change in scenery as she can take comfort in the British contingent of friends she has out there already; including former ‘Downton Abbey’s stars Joanna Froggatt and Lesley Nicole.
She said: "I am so happy for Lesley, she has just landed a new big TV show here – and it is different from her ‘Downton Abbey’ character, but obviously ‘Downton’s’ success helped.
"Joanne is lovely too and her husband James. She is doing very well here and getting a lot of opportunities. They have been both been very kind to me here."
Alongside her two pals, her rocker son Matt Healy – from the band The 1975 – is also familiar with the US and spends a lot of time across the pond on music projects.
Speaking of her 27-year-old son, she said: "He loves it out here too, and we just seem to make so many friends."
