Deal or No Deal gets axed

‘Deal or No Deal’ has been axed.
The boxed cash game show – which is fronted by Noel Edmonds – has been given the chop by Channel 4 following 11 years on screen after it failed to pull in viewers.
A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "’Deal Or No Deal’ doesn’t get the ratings it used to and it is not a cheap daytime show to make.
"Noel and ‘Deal’ had a great run but bosses have just decided it is the right time to end the series."
The final episode will air in the autumn and bosses have arranged for a special tour to take place in order to give the long-running show the send-off it truly deserves.
The insider explained: "The farewell tour will be a great way for fans to say goodbye to the show."
The decision to axe the programme won’t come as too much of a surprise to Noel – who has fronted the show since the first episode – as he admitted last year he didn’t know whether bosses were planning to recommission it.
He said at the time: "I have no idea about the future of ‘Deal or No Deal’. I get asked this all the time and what I can say is we finished recording the last one at the end of the first week of May and they have enough ‘Deal or No Deal’ to go through to the end of next year."
But, although ‘Deal or No Deal’ is being booted off air, the 67-year-old presenter won’t be out of work as Channel 4 are planning to replace it with a new game show.
Meanwhile, ‘Deal or No Deal’ isn’t the only show getting the axe this year as Channel 4 have also decided not to recommission ‘The Million Pound Drop’.
A source said earlier this year: "Bosses have decided to put their money into other shows and there are no plans currently to bring back ‘The Million Pound Drop’. People say it’s a shame as it had a big following."
However, despite the broadcaster’s determination to save cash for other ventures, the popular programme, which ran for 11 series and saw contestants play for the £1 million jackpot, hasn’t been given the cold shoulder permanently and may be given the chance to return in the future.
