Dasha: Men can do no wrong in country music

Dasha says men “can do no wrong” in country music.

The 25-year-old country-pop singer – who was catapulted into the spotlight in 2024 thanks to her viral smash hit Austin – has spoken candidly about the gender inequalities she’s observed in Nashville, claiming that male artists often get away with behaviour that women would be scrutinised for.

Speaking on Rolling Stone’s Nashville Now podcast, she said: “Especially in the country world, men, for the most part, can do no wrong. The more they’re outspoken and the more they express their opinions and go outside the lines, the more someone’s like, ‘Oh, he’s so cool.'”

She continued: “Women are so cutthroat. If I saw a woman breaking the rules online a bit, in the country world, wearing some shorts that her cheeks are out, I’d be like, ‘Go queen!’ But they’re like, ‘You stupid b****.'”

Dasha says therapy has helped her deal with online criticism.

She said: “Now, when I see those comments, I’m like, ‘Thanks, Karen from Minnesota, you’re feeding my algorithm. Appreciate you, girl.’”

Dasha – whose full name is Anna Dasha Novotny – recently released the track Train from her upcoming EP Anna, due for release on October 10.

Comprised of eight tracks, it includes the previously released singles Like It Like That, Oh, Anna!, and the viral hit Not At This Party, which received a remix by global superstar David Guetta.

Meanwhile, Dasha will support Kane Brown on his UK and Ireland arena tour this October.

The run kicks off on October 3 at Dublin’s 3Arena and wraps at London’s OVO Arena Wembley on October 10.
