Coronation Street’s Billy to ‘anger’ viewers

‘Coronation Street’ viewers will be "angered" by Billy Mayhew buying into Josh Tucker’s sob story.
Ryan Clayton believes the ITV soap’s fans will be mad when his evil alter-ego Josh – who previously raped David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) – manipulates the vicar (Daniel Brocklebank) to get him on side, so much so Billy asks the mechanic to move in with him.
He said: "I think that they will be glad and enjoy his comeuppance but if they see Billy buying in to him I think it will anger them.
"He has got nowhere else to go, Billy is his only hope right now because he has got no family, certainly not any that he still talks to.
"He is still massively in denial. There is concern towards David; he doesn’t want to bother David but only because if he bothers David then Billy is going to kick him out which is all from a selfish point of view."
Josh’s confidence has taken a battering in recent weeks after he was viciously attacked by his friend Ethan which left him blind, and Ryan admits it is "nice" to portray the character as "weak and vulnerable" rather than the macho mechanic he was when he first stepped foot on the cobbles.
He said: "It’s nice to play a villain weak and vulnerable because he is just a coward really, isn’t he?
"Josh started off as this macho guy, unbreakable, so it’s good to see the other side. His true colours are showing."
While Billy is trying to help Josh, Ryan doesn’t hold out much hope for his alter-ego.
He explained: "He is a troubled soul from a troubled background so there is a genuine connection to something that he feels there from Billy but I don’t think that is going to change him any time soon.
"He is just using Billy as an opportunity to manipulate someone and he would do anything for self gain."
