Connor McIntyre: Kate will leave Corrie in ‘great shape’

Connor McIntyre thinks Kate Oates will leave ‘Coronation Street’ in "great shape" – despite some viewers being left "uncomfortable" by the show’s dark storylines.
The ‘Corrie’ star is set to exit the ITV soap in the coming weeks as Pat Phelan finally gets his comeuppance after a terrifying murdering spree on the cobbles, and he has praised the outgoing series producer – who will depart the show in June – admitting it has been a "massive privilege" to work with her.
Connor exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "’Corrie’ has been a massive privilege to be in during Kate’s tenure. There were parts when people [viewers] were uncomfortable but it’s been great stuff.
"I think it’s in great shape."
‘Corrie’ released a Phelan’s Revenge trailer on Saturday (12.05.18) which showed the serial killer facing up to his wife Eileen Phelan (Sue Cleaver) and Gary Windass (Mikey North), among other residents, but the star has "promised" viewers that characters they "won’t expect" will be involved in his revenge.
Speaking at the Virgin TV British Academy Television Awards at London’s Royal Festival Hall on Sunday (13.05.18), he added: "I’m proper excited about being back. I’m really excited. We already know what Phelan is like.
"Now all the people he cares about have abandoned him, so he sees it, so he’s now coming back and he’s not happy.
"It’s enough to say if Pat Phelan is ending up back on the street there’s going to be trouble.
"What you’ve got in the trailer is the people who you would assume are going to be the natural targets, but I promise you there will be people involved who you won’t expect."
Connor is to star alongside former ‘Corrie’ actor Les Dennis (Michael Rodwell) in panto later this year, and he hinted the script writers may include references to Phelan leaving Michael for dead.
He added: "’Cinderella’ with Les is going to be a very nice counterpoint to playing Phelan for two and a half years, on this visit.
"Les is an old friend of mine. There’s stuff we carry over from ‘Corrie’ to there.
"Whether it’s in the script or not I’m fairly sure the audience will bring that anyway.
"He was the first of Phelan’s victims."
