Charlie Brooker’s 2017 Wipe cancelled

Charlie Brooker’s ‘2017 Wipe’ has been cancelled as he didn’t have enough time to make the show.
The ‘Black Mirror’ creator has written and hosted the satirical round-up of the year’s news and events for the BBC for the last seven years, but has announced the 2017 edition has been shelved.
Charlie wrote on Twitter: "Got some good news and bad news. Bad news is no 2017 Wipe. Was set to do it but ran out of road. Am way behind on scripts / dev elsewhere and contrary to my optimistic delusions it turns out I can’t do 400 things at once. (sic)"
But the show’s Philomena Cunk, played by Diane Morgan, is set to take centre stage in her own spin-off series, ‘Cunk On Britain’.
Charlie added: "The good news (or bad news depending on POV) is we’ve just delivered CUNK ON BRITAIN (a 5-part history of our glorious nation starring Philomena) to the BBC, and that will be on *soon*.
"Just to add, Cunk on Britain covers the WHOLE of British history from the Big Bang to Brexit. In five half-hourly chunks.) (sic)"
The Cunk character is a spoof documentary presenter who knows nothing about the subjects she is covering.
Charlie previously admitted that the speed at which real-life events happened made it impossible for the production team to meet the demands of making his regular ‘Weekly Wipe’ show, which aired for three series between 2013 and 2015.
The 46-year-old father-of-two – who is married to former ‘Blue Peter’ presenter Konnie Huq – is busy working on the fourth series of his sci-fi series ‘Black Mirror’, which has been an award-winning success in both the UK and the US. The next series is due to hit screens in 2018.
