Charli XCX ‘wants to make best pop album of 2017’

Charli XCX wants to "make the best pop album of 2017".
The ‘Boom Clap’ hitmaker has revealed her as-yet-untitled third studio LP is finished and will be out sometime next year and she is confident it’s going to be a massive hit.
She said: "I want to make the best pop album of 2017."
The 23-year-old beauty has teamed up with both of her longtime collaborators SOPHIE and Stargate for the album because she wanted to mix their different styles to make a record of "progressive pop music".
On her decision to work with SOPHIE – who produced her latest EP ‘Vroom Vroom’, she said: "I didn’t want to make just an album with SOPHIE, and I didn’t want to make just an album with Stargate.
"I wanted to make an album with SOPHIE and Stargate. Sure, some of SOPHIE’s records are a little harsh and off-the-wall, but the goal is to be making progressive pop music."
The ‘Doing It’ singer brought them together because she knew they would gel well together, despite her label wanting her to work with Stargate – a production duo comprised of Mikkel Storleer Eriksen and Tor Erik Hermansen – most known for their work with Beyonce, Rihanna and Ne-Yo.
She told FADER magazine: "Stargate obviously come from a totally different world, but at the same time that’s also their aim, you know? That xylophone on their old Ne-Yo R&B s***, the way the handclaps were programmed? I know people are going to be like, ‘She wanted to make the album with SOPHIE, and her label said, You need to put it with Stargate to make this work.’ But it was never about putting SOPHIE in a pop environment and flattening him out. It was knowing they could bounce really well, in a room together, working to each other’s strengths."
Charli feels it is important for artists to "shake things up" from time to time and admits she has been incredibly inspired by some of her collaborators.
She previously said: "I think it always needs a shake up and I think multiple artists do that but I want to push it.
"I’ve been collaborating with people from PC Music so that’s been very inspiring for me – the way they think about music and the way that they create music and transferring that into like a more pop realm is something that is cool and yeah, it’s next level! I’m not really saying too much about it right now because I just want it to talk for itself. And it will."
