Channel 4 cancels The Surjury following Caroline Flack tragedy

Channel 4 has cancelled ‘The Surjury’ following Caroline Flack’s death.
The TV presenter – who had previously spoken out in support of her new show, amid criticism over its concept – passed away on Saturday (15.02.20) and the broadcaster has now announced that it’s already cancelled plans to air the programme, which was set to launch later this year.
The broadcaster said: "We are shocked and saddened to hear the tragic news about Caroline Flack.
"Our deepest sympathies go out to Caroline’s family and friends. Under the circumstances, we have decided not to broadcast ‘The Surjury’."
The programme saw contestants pitch their dream bodies to a jury of strangers.
And provided they could secure support from 75 percent of the panel, the contestants would be able to have the procedures done for free.
Caroline passionately defended the show after its concept was first revealed to the public.
Her comments came after Jameela Jamil tweeted: "Welp. Black Mirror is officially happening guys. It’s here. (sic)"
In response, Caroline said: "Have you managed to see a copy before me? Please forward .. am desperate to see..
"Because I’ve filmed it and the people who have taken part are amazing and have been through a lot and life is about individual choice … (sic)"
Caroline passed away at her home in east London on Saturday.
A family statement read: "We can confirm that our Caroline passed away today on the 15th February. We would ask that the press both respect the privacy of the family at this difficult time."
