Captain Tom Moore given Pride of Britain Award

Captain Tom Moore has received a Pride of Britain award for raising more than £28 million for the NHS.
The 99-year-old war veteran successfully walked the length of his garden 100 times before his 100th birthday on April 30th to raise money for the frontline workers who are battling the coronavirus crisis, and has now been awarded for his extraordinary efforts.
Pride of Britain presenter Carol Vorderman surprised Tom during an appearance on ‘Good Morning Britain’, via video link, to announce he had received almost 70,000 nominations.
Tom was left humbled by the nods for the "magnificent award" and thanked the nation for choosing him.
He said: "That is absolutely amazing. It’s very difficult for me to believe things like this.
"I know the Pride of Britain Awards is a very important one, I can’t be more proud to be in a position to receive it from you.
"You are all so, so very kind. I thank all the people who nominated me for this award. I thank you very much because I am very, very humbled at receiving this magnificent award. Thank you all very, very much.
"I am completely taken aback by this because I know it’s an important, prestigious award that people get, thank you very, very much."
A host of famous faces, including Sir David Jason, Michael Sheen, Joanna Lumley, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Katherine Jenkins, Rita Ora and Bear Grylls, then appeared on a video to thank Tom and congratulate him on his latest achievement.
‘Only Fools and Horses’ star David said: "In the 1940s, you and your mates stepped up to the plate to help the country out and here you are again.
"You are a hero. And I salute you."
After seeing the video, Tom was left in "awe" at the stars who took the time to make an emotional clip.
He said: "I’m absolutely over-awed by it. Famous people doing such great things themselves, I’m completely taken aback by all those famous people on the screen there.
"Thank you very much, so kind of you all."
