Britpop Bargain Hunt ends with cheating claims

The Britpop ‘Bargain Hunt’ pitting Pulp against Happy Mondays ended in chaos amid cheating claims.
The upcoming episode of the series features Jarvis Cocker and Candida Doyle battling Bez and Rowetta Idah, but the rule book had to be consulted during post-production.
While details are yet to be revealed, Bez has insisted he and his bandmate didn’t mean to cause any trouble despite being pulled back to the Kent County showground to re-shoot.
He is quoted by the Daily Mirror newspaper as saying:"It was an honest error, we never meant to cheat … the producer was fuming with us for ruining the show.
"So I phoned up and said, ‘I’ll just go on and explain the mistake and how it happened, and it should be OK’. So we ended up sorting it out.
"I think it made the show a little bit better, to be truthful."
It certainly wasn’t smooth sailing for producers, as Jarvis also refused to wear the trademark ‘Bargain Hunt’ fleece, instead insisting he stick to his own sense of style.
Bez said: "You won’t get Jarvis out of his suit, not a chance. Especially not for a market-y type fleece. He’s a rebel on the quiet."
The show – which features two teams competing to find the best deals on antiques – has never had to check its own rule book before, but executive producer Chris Tucker thought it added a bit of excitement.
He told RadioTimes magazine: "We had to deliver this show quite quickly after we filmed it, and of course we weren’t expecting to have to do the ending again.
"Although it wasn’t expected, it certainly added an interesting twist and another layer to the show. I guess it’s what you might expect from a bunch of rock ‘n’ rollers."
The ‘BBC Music Day – Bargain Hunt’ episode airs on September 28 at 12.15pm on BBC One.
