Britain’s Queen Elizabeth kicked off her Christmas holiday by travelling to Norfolk by train.
The 88-year-old monarch arrived at King’s Lynn railway station yesterday (18.12.14) from London’s King’s Cross in the first class section of the train which had been especially reserved for her during the 100 mile trip.
The Queen – who travels to Norfolk every year to spend the festive period on her Sandringham Estate with her husband Prince Philip – was led out of a side entrance, known as the Queen’s Gate, by her personal security team, and into a waiting Range Rover which drove her onto her luxurious residence, reports Hello! magazine.
The Queen – who was dressed in a patterned headscarf and green coat -caused quite a stir when she arrived on the platform.
Graeme Pratt, the station’s manager, said: "It’s an absolute privilege to transport the Royal Family, especially Her Majesty."
Queen Elizabeth traditionally resides at Sandringham with Philip, 93, until early February.
She will be joined by the rest of royal family – Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their son Prince George – at the estate over Christmas. The group will enjoy lunch at Sandringham after attending a traditional service at the nearby parish church of St Mary Magdalene.
