Bonnie Tyler claims she earns virtually ‘nothing’ from Total Eclipse of the Heart streams

Bonnie Tyler has revealed that she earns virtually nothing from streaming revenue for her signature hit Total Eclipse of the Heart — despite the song recently surpassing a billion streams.

Speaking to BBC Wales, the Welsh singer reflected on the milestone with pride, noting the scale of its global reach.

She said: “I’m really happy — when you think about it, there’s only 8.3 billion people in the world.”

The track remains one of the most recognisable power ballads of the 1980s and continues to draw new listeners more than four decades after its release.

Tyler said she still enjoys performing it live, adding that audiences never fail to meet the moment.

She said: “Never, I never get tired of singing it.

“I love it because everyone can’t wait to sing it.”

However, when asked whether the huge streaming numbers translate into meaningful income, she admitted that the royalties she receives from digital platforms are minimal.

She said: “Oh, it’s nothing — just about nothing.”

At the age of 74, Tyler might have “slowed down a little bit”, but still has no plans to retire.

She previously told The Sunday Mirror’s Notebook magazine: “I started singing when I was 17 and I never thought I’d still be doing it at this age. I’ve slowed down a little bit, but I know now that I will never retire.

“Even though I was so lucky because I was in Portugal when the first lockdown was announced, by the end of it, I’d had enough. I was going crazy. I needed to get back out there on the road!”
