Anita Dobson proud of iconic EastEnders episode

‘EastEnders’ legend Anita Dobson is proud to have been part of the soap’s most iconic episode.
The 69 year-old actress is delighted that TV channel Drama are airing classic episodes of the BBC soap, such as the Christmas Day 1986 ep which saw ‘Dirty’ Den Watts (Leslie Grantham) hand Angie Watts (Anita) divorce papers, which drew in more than 30 million viewers.
She told the Metro newspaper: "I’m absolutely thrilled because to have made something that’s so iconic and that people are actually watching again – as well as a new generation – is wonderful and magical.
"I can hold it up as an achievement in my life.
"It was insane. People were following me home in cars, singing outside my window at my flat,
"I couldn’t go to pubs or supermarkets or walk down the street. It was bizarre but that was my life.
"How exciting I got to do that."
The legendary TV veteran – best known for playing barmaid Angie from 1985 to 1988 – also reminisced that characters were more "beautifully drawn" than the figures that appear on our screens now.
She said: "They were beautifully drawn characters in those early days – much like when you look back at Ena Sharples or Minnie Caldwell from ‘Coronation Street’, I still remember them now.
"You wanted to know them. That’s what made people love them and why they’re happy to see them again."
Following the famous Christmas Day episode in 1986, ‘EastEnders’ also attracted 28 million viewers for the aftermath of Den’s divorce to Angie on New Year’s Day 1987.
