Andy Whyment reveals Corrie stars were ‘worried’ about going off air

Andy Whyment has admitted ‘Coronation Street’ stars were "worried" they might run out of episodes during the coronavirus lockdown.

The 39-year-old actor – who has played Kirk Sutherland since 2000 – admitted it is "great news" the ITV soap’s stars are to resume filming on June 9th, but he revealed the cast were concerned the show might have gone off air after filming was paused in late March.

He said: "I think everybody is ready to get back to work now. It’s going to be different, but I think we’re all ready to get back now and shoot the show again.

"I’ve had 10 weeks off now. Sometimes I’ve had periods where I’ve had six weeks off, but at least you know when you’re going back and what you’re going back to.

"It’s great news for everyone.

"I think everyone was a bit worried that we might have to go off air, but thankfully we can get back to filming again."

‘Corrie’ confirmed earlier today (01.06.20) that the production team started a health and safety induction to familiarise themselves with the new protocols that are now in place throughout the studios and on the ‘Coronation Street’ set.

And Andy admitted the cast are all booked in for an induction to teach them about the new rules, and there will be a one-way system implemented on the set.

Speaking to Lorraine Kelly on ‘Good Morning Britain’, he added: "We have to have an induction before we go back filming, just to see what the new system is going to be like.

"I think there’s a one-way system and each director is going to stay in one studio, so it’s going to take some getting used to.

"But I’m sure we will soon get used to it.

"Once we’re back we’ll just crack on with it."
