Alan Titchmarsh feels sorry for Prince Charles

Alan Titchmarsh feels sorry for Prince Charles in the wake of Prince Harry’s tell-all interview.

The 71-year-old TV star thinks it’s “sad” that Charles had to sit back and watch his son discuss their lives with Oprah Winfrey.

Alan – who is close friends with Charles, having made several TV and radio shows with him – said: “He is an amazing man. I feel for him a lot.

“I think it’s sad he’s had to be put through what he’s been put through, but he’s got enough people, I hope, who value what he does and who can see what he does and can field for him.”

Alan thinks there are “many young people in Britain” who would happily voice their support for Charles.

He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “He’s a man who has dedicated his life to his country, and changed lives – he’s reached the parts that many other organisations can’t reach.

“There are so many young people in Britain who will stand up and tell you what he has done for them. That’s worth listening to.”

During his sit-down interview with Oprah, Prince Harry revealed he felt let down by his dad and that, at one stage, Charles stopped taking his phone calls.

The 36-year-old royal – who relocated to California last year – suggested that his dad and brother are both “trapped” in the institution.

He said: “My father and my brother, they are trapped. They don’t get to leave. And I have huge compassion for that.”

Harry admitted the royals face a constant pressure to present a particular image of themselves.

He explained: “It’s a part of the role. That’s what’s expected, no matter who you are in the family, no matter what’s going on in your personal life, no matter what’s just happened.”
