Alan Titchmarsh feels like a ‘spring chicken’ after knee surgery

Alan Titchmarsh has been forced to have knee surgery due to years of bending down.
The 69-year-old TV presenter was forced to have a knee operations on both legs due to problems with his joints caused, but he revealed he feels much better after his operation.
The star explained at the RHS Hampton Court Flower Show: "I have had what is known as knee arthroscopy on both my knees and my surgeon did it to investigate the reason for my knee pain.
"While he was doing it he removed all my damaged tissue and cartilage – I had it all cleared out and they feel so much better."
Although years of kneeling down in the garden for work left him in some discomfort, Alan – who was rushed to hospital in 2016 after collapsing with gallstones – insisted he is a "spring chicken" after the operation.
He added: "I’ve got bad knees as a result of a lot of kneeing over the years from gardening and it has got a bit frayed in there but I am a spring chicken again now."
The English gardener has also spoken on how his work helps him maintain his youthful appearance.
He said: "I don’t use any skin products. For me, gardening is the secret to looking good, I can’t believe that I am going to turn 70 next March.
"I walk a lot – I walk every day – and my wife Lynn keeps me on my toes."
Alan has also offered up his top tips for keeping flowers and plants alive in your garden in the hot weather over the warm summer months.
He advised: "I would say to use your water wisely and use it for newly planted things like fruit and veg and don’t bother watering the lawn. Let it go brown and it will recover."
Alan will be fronting the new series ‘Secret’s of the National Trust’ on Channel 5.
