Alan Carr would be ‘wrong’ for Great British Bake Off

Alan Carr insists he’d be "wrong" for the ‘Great British Bake Off’.
The former ‘Chatty Man’ presenter has hosted a string of shows for Channel 4 but insists he isn’t a big fan of the baking competition – which the network recently acquired from Love Productions – and wouldn’t want to put people off watching the show because he’s such a divisive character.
He said: "Just because I look like I eat cake doesn’t mean I’m hosting it.
"No one has approached me and I don’t love the show as much of others. I’d be wrong for it – I’m too Marmite – and I’d hate to spoil it."
But the deal Channel 4 struck to land the show has made Alan think he’s underpaid by the broadcaster.
He said: "I was a bit shocked when C4 bought it. My first thought was, ‘So you’ve got £75 million to spare? I’ll have some of that, thank you.’ "
The 40-year-old star – who recently got engaged to partner Paul Drayton – wishes he had a "darker side" but insists he’s exactly the same on and off camera.
He told Woman magazine: "I’ve always said there’s never going to be a documentary about the real Alan Carr – sadly, what you see is what you get.
"I’d like to have a darker side and be a bit sinister and menacing, but I’m not like that.
"I’ve got a sunny disposition. Part of it is because of the number of rubbish jobs I’ve had; I think, ‘This is a blessing’ and grab it."
While Alan doesn’t want the ‘…Bake Off’ job, a number of stars have been speculated to be replacing Mel & Sue as presenters, including Clare Balding, Victoria Coren Mitchell and Sandi Toksvig.
