Ade Edmondson can’t talk about Rik Mayall

Ade Edmondson finds it hard to talk about his late comedy partner Rik Mayall as he is still grieving for him.

The 57-year-old comic and Mayall achieved incredible success together in satirical 80s comedy ‘The Young Ones’ and in 90s sitcom ‘Bottom’ and since his shock death in June at the age of 56, Edmondson has struggled to process the loss.

Speaking to The Observer newspaper, he said: "I mean, Rik’s death is just enormous and I haven’t talked to anyone other than close friends about it. I don’t really know how to talk about it to other people. I’m aware that people want something from me and I don’t quite know how to give them what it is they want … The thing is, I’m just completely awash, still. I don’t know where I am with him."

Edmondson also revealed that he was recently asked to appear in a BBC tribute to his friend, but declined the opportunity because he felt it was the wrong way to reflect on Mayall’s phenomenal career.

He said: "You could see it was just going to be a load of talking heads and clips, so I pulled out of that … I just think he deserves something better than that. And I think, if someone important dies, you can’t be flippant about it."
