Sir Bruce Forsyth went ‘stale’ working on Strictly Come Dancing

Sir Bruce Forsyth felt "stale" towards the end of his time on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.

The legendary entertainer presented the show from 2004 to 2013, but has revealed he found the role of the main presenter to be "lonely" and is glad he no longer fronts the popular BBC programme.

Sir Bruce, 86, said: "I was beginning to maybe feel a little bit stale, and I’m glad I stopped."

‘Strictly Come Dancing’ is now presented by Claudia Winkleman, 42, and Sir Bruce’s former co-host Tess Daly, who has subsequently assumed a more significant role on the show.

Speaking about 45-year-old Tess, Sir Bruce told ‘Alan Carr: Chatty Man’: "She is lovely, but of course she’s taken over my spot in the show – all the talk about Claudia, Claudia taking my place – she wasn’t. She was taking Tess’ place, up in her penthouse suite where all the nonsense goes on.

"So [Tess has] taken over my job, and I said to her, ‘That job in Strictly is quite a lonely job’, because you’re on and off all the time, up and down the stairs, introduce this and that, but you don’t actually meet anybody on the show, you don’t have a conversation with anybody on the show.

"It’s a very lonely job to be the ‘top host’, shall we say, for want of a better word, to be on and off all the time – it’s a much more difficult job, and you do feel lonely."
