Prince Andrew has admitted that he finds the selfie trend "disconcerting".
The Duke of York has admitted that he has struggled to adapt to the new technology phenomenon, which involves people constantly trying to take photographs with the royal family.
Talking to BBC Radio 1’s Newsbeat, Prince Andrew said: "One finds that if you’re walking along crowd of people, you’re faced with iPad, not a face.
"But it’s a live event. Why do you need to film a live event?
"It’s disconcerting, not rude or anything, just disconcerting that this is the new reality."
His comments echo the thoughts of the US ambassador Matthew Barzun, who told Tatler magazine that the Queen isn’t very comfortable with the selfie trend either.
Matthew – who met with the Queen at Buckingham Palace to present his credentials as a foreign ambassador – told the mag: "She was essentially saying ‘I miss eye contact’."
However, Prince Andrew isn’t totally unhappy with selfie – as long as he is in control of the camera.
In April, the 54-year-old Duke became the first member of the royal family to share a selfie of himself after he took a snap of himself and his guests at his Pitch @ Palace event in St James’ Palace and posted it on Twitter.
