Prince Harry ‘stole’ Invictus Games idea

Britain’s Prince harry "stole" the idea for the Invictus Games from the US.

The 29-year-old royal has been busy organising a sporting competition for injured members of the armed forces in a bid to help them through rehabilitation with the hope of paving a "pathway back into employment."

However, he admits the event wasn’t totally his idea but will be bigger and better than the initial concept.

Asked if he came up with the idea himself, he replied: "[I was] happy to steal it off the Americans I think, is probably the best way of explaining it.

"The Americans have had the Warrior Games now for the last four and a half, five years.

"They have the Navy against the R.A.F. against the Army. We went over there, I had a team of 30 UK guys that joined in with the Americans and basically saw this event take place and decided that it was such a wonderful concept we should steal it, make it bigger, make it better and bring it back home."

The flame-haired hunk took on the task as a full-time job and, although it was a "struggle", he hopes the competition will become a "regular" event.

Speaking to Chris Evans on BBC Radio 2’s breakfast show this morning (31.07.14), he said: "This is definitely going to be a regular event, we’re still trying to work out whether we do it next year or the year after and whether it’s going to be within the UK or whether it’s going to be abroad."

The Invictus Games, which will include wheelchair basketball and indoor rowing, will take place at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London from September 10 until and September 14.
