Britain’s Queen Elizabeth photobombs hockey players’ selfie

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth has photobombed a woman’s selfie.

Australian hockey player Jade Taylor was celebrating her team’s 4-0 win over Malaysia at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow yesterday(24.07.14) when she took a selfie with her teamate Brooke Peris and was shocked to find the Queen had crept into the photo.

The picture – which Jade, 29, later posted on her Twitter account – shows the girls smiling wearing their sports kits, while the Queen, dressed head to toe in mint green, can be seen grinning at the pair in the background.

She captioned the image: "Ahhh The Queen photo-bombed our selfie!! #royalty #sheevensmiled #amazing #Glasgow2014 @Hockeyroos @AusComGames(sic)".

It remains unclear whether Her Majesty – who arrived at the new Glasgow National Hockey Centre to watch the England women’s team win their first match of the competition against Wales – had intended to get in the way on the shot, reports standard.co.uk.

Meanwhile, the Queen kicked off the 2014 games in an opening ceremony at the Celtic Park stadium on wednesday (23.07.14).

The 88-year-old royal delivered an almost-year-old message – which had been placed in a baton and carried by fans over a 10-month relay through 71 locations in the Commonwealth – to the 40,000 strong crowd.

She said: "At Buckingham Palace last October I placed this message into the specially-crafted baton and passed it to the first of many thousands of baton-bearers. Over the past 288 days the baton has visited all the nations and territories of the Commonwealth, crossing every continent in a journey of more than 100,000 miles.

"The baton relay represents a calling together of people from every part of the Commonwealth and serves as a reminder of our shared ideals and ambitions as a diverse, resourceful and cohesive family."
